Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden laid the foundation for the cathedral project to house the relics of the Three Wise Men. However, construction stretched over centuries. After 1520, work came to a halt. It was only in the 19th century, with the revival of Gothic architecture and the Industrial Revolution providing new technological and financial means, that construction resumed in full force. Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who declared the cathedral's completion a national mission, laid the foundation stone for its finalization in 1842. In 1880, 632 years after the foundation was laid, Cologne Cathedral was finally completed in its current form. The jersey runs one size smaller. We recommend ordering a size up.
