The design incorporates key elements of the stadium that have been preserved to this day, shaping its unique atmosphere. The jersey's pattern is inspired by the stadium's two entrance gates, particularly the iconic Marathon Gate. The sleeves, collar, and flocking reference the characteristic running track that surrounds the pitch and has been part of the sporting action for decades. The color scheme and the look of the BVB logo are inspired by the sandstone walls that have framed the venue since its opening in 1926. The back of the neck features the inscription "100 Years Stadion Rote Erde".
